THE INDIAN SOCIETY OF TOXICOLOGY

A new professional body devoted exclusively to the field of toxicology with the express purpose of developing this vital specialty, and to serve as a forum for all professionals and research students engaged in toxicological work to share their thoughts and exchange relevant information.

Started in June 2004 by Dr. V. V. Pillay (Founder President).

Membership of this society is open to all those who are professionally qualified in any area of toxicology, as well as to those who do not possess such qualification but are engaged in toxicological research or practice. The society thus invites membership from the following without discrimination or distinction: toxicologists, forensic experts (drawn from forensic medicine or forensic science), physicians/clinicians (drawn from medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, intensive care, etc), pharmacologists, pharmacists, & all researchers (scientists or students) working on any area related to toxicology.

The society brings forth a peer reviewed journal - Journal of Indian Society of Toxicology or JIST – that publishes original articles in any area of toxicology, as well as book reviews, commentaries, announcements relating to conferences and workshops, etc., The aim is to make it a high quality indexed scientific journal exclusively dedicated to toxicology. 

There will be an annual conference of the society every year, as well as regional CME programmes, seminars, and workshops. The Inaugural Conference was held at AIMS Cochin on 28 November 2005, which was attended by 175 delegates from India and abroad.

The second conference (24 & 25 July 2006) was sponsored by the World Health Organization, and was devoted to the development of a national protocol on the management of snakebite. All subsequent conferences were similarly theme-based.
